updates before bed

I don't want to go on too much about work. I will say though, that I think that the store is going to do very well. We are getting busier every week so far, and I am quite excited to see the team growing and getting better every day. There are still some wrinkles to be ironed, the odd person or two who doesn't see the big picture about the restaurant, but they will be dealt with in time. And there is the ongoing issue of the ventilation in the kitchen, a leaky ice machine and the cooler that stopped working. These things happen, and thank you one year warranty on everything for keeping me from worrying too much about them.

Christmas was great. I was blessed to spend it with people I love, and love me back. My new beard trimmer seems to be on steroids compared to the last one, and I had to be careful not to lose my nose this morning.

We have a second Lucy in our family now, a sweet and gorgeous 2 year old black lab (crossed with what we speculate to be border collie) who is mostly well trained, gentle with people (including the kids) and has nothing but love to give. We rescued her from the Delta animal shelter, and any doubt if this was the perfect dog for us was gone very quickly.

This weekend and the start of next week brings not only a new year, but a new house too. It's not really a new house, but is new to us. We get to move "up" the ladder on to the top floor and out of the basement. I am so excited for that, and the extra space we will have. Not too excited about the moving part though, which I believe I have droned on about elsewhere on this blog. (we have moved once or twice before).

Alas, the end of my day has come and I must sleep now, for I have pieces in place that have allowed me a day off tomorrow, and along with that, a date with my wonderful, beautiful, amazing and blessed wife.

the "i'm finally home" post. sort of.

I was going to write a post about "finally" being home, how tired Dave and I were of Calgary, how amazing it was to finally be back with my family. Then I found out that we were opening the restaurant a week early, so instead of two days off with my peeps before returning to work after being away for 4 weeks, I had to get up and start work here.

Since then, I have been working lawyer-like hours. I can't imagine how people do the 9am-1am work day every week. 7 days a week. I did it for one week, and by the end of it I was definitely spent. I have been able to cut back the hours a bit, as people get more trained. I'm still pretty much working everyday, and looking forward to Christmas for a day off.

There is so much more I am excited for about Christmas than just a day off. We have been so blessed this year, meeting new friends, helping old friends, a new life plan and focus on the Lord.

I could go on and on about it, but as you may have guessed, it's time for me to leave for work.
